The Time an Object Holds · LauraBartlett.live

On value that is not measured by price, and the time held within an object.

In 7 Women Redefining Beautiful Homes, and What We Can Learn From Them, Laura Bartlett brings together seven women who shape the home in different ways: interior designers, an architect, an upholsterer, an organiser. Each was asked the same quiet question. What makes a home beautiful, and for whom?

Valeria Viollaz’s answer began long before VV Interior Home. It began in her father’s workshop. He was a cabinetmaker, and she watched him sand wood by hand. Slowly. Patiently. In those hours she learned to see what most people overlook: the human time an object holds.

What Laura Bartlett recognised is the conviction that runs through every piece in the collection. Newness is not value. A name or a reputation is not a connection. The marks of use, the softened edge, the surface that has been lived with: these are not flaws. They are memory.

The article also looks inside Valeria’s own home. It has an earthy palette, and its windows open onto greenery and mountains. Nothing is there to impress. Everything is there to stay.

Valeria shares the feature with Marion Lichtig, Siobhan Murphy, Sorcha Drakeford, Aprielle Chung, Micaela Sharp and Hayley Reed. It is a conversation among women who believe a home should be designed on its own terms. We are grateful to be part of it.
