The Conscious Living
Where Swiss Luxury Meets Awareness
By Valeria Viollaz · VV Interior Home · Lucerne, SwitzerlandAs featured in Chiswick Life, The Life Magazines — April 2026
When The Life Magazines (London) invited me to curate a series of travel destinations for 2026, Switzerland was not a choice — it was a conviction.
I have lived here long enough to understand what this country does quietly and without announcement: it builds things to last. Its architecture, its craftsmanship, its hospitality, its culture — all of it operates from a single underlying premise: that quality is not a feature. It is a standard. And that standard, when applied with consciousness and intention, produces something that goes far beyond luxury. It produces meaning.
This is the editorial I presented to The Life Magazines under the title The Conscious Living — Where Swiss Luxury Meets Awareness. It is not a guide to Switzerland. It is a curation — six expressions of a single conviction: that the most sophisticated way to experience a place is slowly, with full attention, and with a genuine desire to understand what makes it true.
01 — Contemporary Sanctuary in the Clouds Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne
Located above Lake Lucerne, the Bürgenstock Resort presents itself as a contemporary sanctuary where architecture, landscape and hospitality coexist in a quiet dialogue. The glamour of its Belle Époque heritage meets the clarity of modern glass architecture. The interiors open toward the lake and the mountains, allowing the landscape to become an essential part of the experience. Here, luxury is expressed through space, calm and perspective. The rhythm slows down: mornings begin with mist rising above the lake, while afternoons unfold in the tranquility of the Alpine Spa suspended between water and sky. More than a destination — a place to reconnect, reflect, and experience the enduring relationship between Swiss design, nature and time.
02 — Echoes of Nature and HistoryMuta Lux · Seiler Juwelier · Ole Lynggaard
This selection brings together three voices united by a shared sensitivity toward craftsmanship and refined aesthetics. Muta Lux creates caftans from carefully selected antique textiles — fabrics that have travelled through time and still carry fragments of memory. Each piece is unique, becoming a new interpretation of tradition where past and present engage in dialogue through the fabric. The jewellery of Ole Lynggaard, represented in Switzerland by Seiler Juwelier, finds its inspiration in the forms of nature — leaves, branches, organic textures transformed into delicate pieces where the strength of natural forms is expressed with subtlety. Together, they represent a tradition of refined craftsmanship and contemporary sensibility.
03 — Flavors of the Mountains CAAA Restaurant · Pietro Catalano
At CAAA, gastronomy is presented as a contemporary exploration of flavours, textures and aromas inspired by the Alpine landscape surrounding Lucerne. Both the design of the space and its culinary approach reflect this connection to the territory. Curved ceilings and sculptural furniture evoke the organic forms of the mountains, while the cuisine interprets regional influences through a contemporary lens. At the head of the kitchen is chef Pietro Catalano, who together with his team presents the dishes directly to the guests, creating a close and personal experience. CAAA feels less like a restaurant and more like an extension of the Catalano family's home — a place where hospitality is expressed with naturalness and authenticity.
04 — More Than Indulgence Laflor
Among the many Swiss chocolate brands, few stand out in such a refined way as Laflor. Carefully overseeing the entire production process — from the selection of single-origin cacao to the final crafting — the brand combines craftsmanship, awareness and subtly elegant design. Laflor is much more than chocolate: it proposes a moment of pause and enjoyment, where each piece invites you to experience the small ritual of sweet pleasure that connects flavour, memory and emotion.
05 — Objects of Earth Kiner Ceramics
The work of Kiner Ceramics finds its inspiration in the ruggedness of the Alpine landscape. Their pieces explore the expressive potential of clay through forms that balance geometry and materiality. Imperfections are not hidden but celebrated, allowing the natural character of the material to remain visible. Through restrained forms and a predominantly dark palette, Kiner creates objects that convey a serene and timeless beauty, reflecting the quiet strength of the landscapes that inspire them.
06 — A Landmark of Sound KKL Luzern Concert Hall
Designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, the KKL Luzern Concert Hall embodies the precision and cultural ambition characteristic of contemporary Switzerland. Located beside Lake Lucerne, the building functions as a carefully orchestrated cultural landscape where architecture, music and environment meet. Recognised for its exceptional acoustics, the Concert Hall is considered one of the best in the world. KKL Luzern enters in dialogue with the lake and surrounding mountains, making culture and landscape feel inseparable.
"Experience the luxury defined by harmony, quality and understated hospitality — the concepts rooted deeply in Swiss identity."
